4 quick tips for buying ghd hair straighteners at Christmas

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009 by admin

Whoosh. What a weekend that was! Visitor numbers to Compareghd.com have gone through the roof and sales via our ghd retailer partners are sky high.  One thing is for certain, the Christmas rush as started!

Anyway, in celebration of the ghd Christmas rush and in anticipation of our ultimate ghd buying guide’s release later this week, we’ve put together 4 quick tips for those of you buying ghds this Christmas:

Tip 1:  The ghd Limited Editions Sell out Fast!

We are already seeing pretty limited availability for the ghd pretty in pink gift set. The 2009 pink ghd has been a sales sensation and there are no more stocks available to retailers, which means that when a website has sold out, it has sold out!

The ghd precious limited edition has better availability at the time of writing, but this will change as November gives way to December.  As this happens your chance of paying less than the RRP will be as likely as a foot of the white stuff come the 25th!

There are still some bargains to be had on the ghd precious and the ghd pink, but don’t wait any longer for these, as soon it will be RRP (or more!)

Tip 2: Picking the right ghds

ghd’s come in three sizes: normal, wide and mini.  We’ll be covering this in much more detail in our exclusive buying guide, but in short here is what you need to know:

ghd mini - buying for a boy or a girl with very short hair (or someone who wants just to create very tight spiral curls?)

ghd wides - these suit very thick, very long or some afro-caribbean hair.

normal - this covers most hair types, and styles.  Unless either the ghd mini or the ghd wides (also known as the ghd salon styler) have jumped out at you as the most obvious choice, then go with the normal ghd IV styler (or one of the limited editions which are both normal ghds) and you will be fine!

Tip 3: Fake ghds are guaranteed to spoil your Christmas

Whether you are buying for yourself or a loved one, don’t enter those card details until you are certain what you are buying is legitimate.  Please take just 5 minutes to read our guide to spotting and avoiding fake ghds (in the article menu at the top of the page).

Tip 4: You get the best deals at Compareghd.com

We’re independent, we don’t sell ghds ourselves, and we only list ghd hair straighteners in price order (cheapest first!)  Which pretty much makes us unique amongst ghd price comparison websites!  That’s why we are number 1!

Prevent Heat Damage from your ghds

Heat protection sprays are ideally suited for use before heat-styling with ghds . They provide thermal protection to your locks and also add shine and long-lasting style.

Paul Mitchell Heat Seal is an award winning heat protection spray. It’s resistant to humidity and protects the follicles from any impending damage from hair dryers, tongs and irons. The spray provides longer life for your hairstyle and increases the sheen in the hair. Heat from your ghds or hairdryer is essential for activating the product.

KMS California Flatout Hot Pressed Spray is a must-use before applying ghds to your hair. The spray works extremely well for very curly hair and provides more than adequate heat protection. Its aromatic fig and jojoba scent adds to its appeal. You can have really sleek, glossy, straight hair when using this product. Blended with natural ingredients, the conditioning agents of KMS provide nourishment to the hair.

Wild hair may sometimes develop frizz. Redken Smooth down Heat Glide is a sheltering smoother which provides heat damage protection from your ghds. Macademia oil and cationic refiners counteract the anionic charges on the hair body, smoothing the follicles and providing sleek, frizz-free hair.

Bumble and bumble Straight is great for curly, wavy or thick hair. It’s perfect to use before applying ghds. Just squeeze it into your palm and blow dry under high-pressure to attain desired straightening.

Ghd thermal protector provides very effective heat protection from ghd hair straighteners, irrespective of whether you have fine, damaged or coarse hair. It protects against hair styling damage up to 200 degrees centigrade. It maintains the level of moisture and bestows great elasticity to your hair. The thermal protector spray acts as an absorber of the heat emitted from your ghds, protecting the hair shaft from damage. Just spray the product onto your hair before using your ghd IV styler.

If you are addicted to your ghds , we recommend investing in one of these great tried and tested heat protection products today.

Heat Mats for your ghds

Protect surfaces from your ghds

Ghd offer premium quality in hair styling. However, ghds generate heat, and the heat from those ghds can potentially damage any surface or fabric they come into contact with . At home, they can damage counter tops. While travelling, your ghds are sometimes still a little warm when you toss them in your suitcase, so they might damage clothes or even the lining of the suitcase. That is why ghd recommend using heat mats and travelling heat mats with pouches, so you can protect your things and surfaces from heat damage. There are several styles to choose from.

Lookfantastic heat mats come in two colours - pink and black . These heat mats can be used at home or as a travel pouch. Because the lookfantastic heat mat is a travel pouch and heat mat in one, you can easily store your ghds in a drawer at home or in a suitcase when you are travelling. The lookfantastic mat is made of heat resistant material that can absorb the heat of your ghds.

Another alternative for people on the go is the Mateque Travel Mat. It also comes in a choice of lively pink or stylish black . This mat can effectively store your styler because it is large enough to contain even the wide ghds. It also serves as a mat to accommodate your ghds and protect counter tops. After using your ghd IV styler, just roll up the ghds in the mat and close the mat tightly with the Velcro fastener. Then toss it in your bag. The heat resistant material will protect everything else from heat damage.

Our final suggestion is the Jason Shankey Heat Resistance Travel Pouch. This pouch comes in pink or black . This heat resistant option has a large pouch into which you can slip your ghds when you are not using them. This protects your ghds while you are travelling. When you are ready to style, merely open the pouch and lay it out flat, and you have a mat which will absorb the heat from your ghds . This will protect the table or countertop you are using.

Why not buy a heat mat for your ghds today?
