ghd hair straighteners - price cut on the official ghd website.

Friday, July 9th, 2010 by admin

For a limited time only the official ghd website (ghdhair.com) is selling all three ghd IV stylers at the price of £99 (rather than the normal RRP, which ranges from £109 - £119).

The three models that savings can be made on are as follows:

ghd IV Styler

The benchmark when it comes to professional salon-quality ceramic hair straighteners. The ghd IV Styler is the best-selling, multi-award winning hair straightening sensation.  Launched in its current incarnation in late 2007, the ghd IV hair iron, is suitable for all hair types and hair lengths.  In addition to providing perfect straight hair, it was designed to enable you to create flicks, curls and waves without having to visit your stylist!

ghd Salon Styler

Perfect for those with extra-long, or extra-thick hair, the ghd Salon Styler is also ideal for Afro-Caribbean hair types. A wide-plated hair straightener, the Salon Styler features exactly the same hair straightening technology as normal ghd hair straighteners, with the exception of having wider 1.5″ ceramic plates.  Sometimes known as ghd wides, these ghd straighteners continue to be the second-best selling ghd model.

ghd Mini Styler

Designed for men and for women with short hairstyles, this versatile ghd straightener can also be used to create tight curls, and there are plenty of ghd addicts who have both this and the normal ghd straighteners in their styling bag.

The main difference between this and normal ghd hair straighteners is that the plates and barrel on the mini styler are narrower.  These narrower plates and barrel allow for easier control when straightening shorter hair lengths.  They also allow the straightener to be twisted more tightly (hence its ability to create smaller, tighter curls).

Compare cheap ghd prices

Of course this discounted price on the official website is still slightly more expensive than some of the other approved ghd retailers that we feature here on compareghd.com.  Right now the cheap ghd prices on Amazon seem pretty unbeatable, but several other merchants offer great “bundle” deals that can prove even better value if you are after some of the accessories and other styling products on offer.

In general all approved ghd websites offer great value for money, and many of these sites also stock numerous exclusive hair and beauty ranges, allowing you to to combine your purchase of ghd hair straighteners with your favourite skin care, hair care or cosmetic products in one easy purchase.

Where are ghd headed in 2010? A make or break year for ghd straighteners?

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010 by admin

There are birthdays that we all remember… and some that signify changes that aren’t always that welcome (tell me about it, Ed.)   For our favourite brand of hair straighteners, ghd, 2010 marks the year that they turn 10.  That means a decade has passed since the launch of the now iconic ghd straighteners.

From the brand that rocked the world of hair dressing to its core, to the established and dominant force in professional hair styling, ghd hair straighteners have quite simply been the story of the past 10 years.  However, as ghd starts to write the story of its second decade it is becoming increasingly clear that the brand stands at a major crossroads.

ghd hair straighteners - new adverts show a wicked sense of humour

Thursday, November 19th, 2009 by admin

ghd has finally retired the “urban angel” / religious imagery adverts that have been the mainstay of their TV and press advertising for their range of ghd hair straighteners.

The new adverts by RKCR/ Y&R represent quite a major departure, and one that we welcome - they show the product!  A lot of the previous ghd adverts were very heavy on the film noir cues but reasonably light on ghd hair straighteners or people using them to straighten their hair.

This new advert, although still stunningly shot and featuring a continuation of the smart, sassy, ghd - wielding female lead, actually shows some hair being straightened and also a good close-up of the ghd IV styler itself.

The ethos of these new adverts is summed up in the slogan, “you can do anything with your hair”. This reflects the increased versatility of the ghd IV Styler, that was first introduced as the flagship ghd hair straightener in late 2006, replacing the ghd 3.1b.

The ghd IV Styler has a more rounded barrel and better performance, allowing you to create curls, flicks and waves as well as poker straight hair.  Although this initial advert was smart to focus on hair straightening (as this is far and away the most common reason for buying ghd straighteners), expect future adverts to focus on some of the more adventurous styles that are possible in the comfort of your own bedroom (or boudoir) thanks to the abilities of the ghd IV Styler.

Anyway, if you didn’t see the premier of the new ghd “Rapunzel” advert during the first advert break of last Saturday’s X factor, then here it is for your delectation (do let us know what you think of it in the comments section below):

ghd Twisted Fairytales - New ghd Twisted Fairytale adverts launching this week

Sunday, November 8th, 2009 by admin

ghd are launching a new advertising campaign this week. The ghd adverts are  based around a  ‘Twisted Fairytales’ concept, and includes characters such as Rapunzel, Red Riding Hood and Cinderella.

Although details are still a bit thin on the ground, we would expect that this ghd Twisted Fairytales concept would involve reimagining classic childrens’ fairy tales for the ghd generation.  Thus expect the axe wield ghd-styled Little Red Riding Hood (pictured above) to be less likely to have to run to daddy to deal with the wicked wolf that is trying to eat her!

The ghd Twisted Fairy Tales campaign is to launch with the the strapline “You can do anything with your hair”.  This is part of ghd’s ongoing attempts to educate the public that ghd hair straighteners can be used for a lot more than just straightening your hair.

Creating twists, flicks and curls, although possible with all models of ghd hair straighteners, have come well into the reach of the ordinary ghd user (as opposed to the ghd Expert hairdresser) since the launch in 2007 of the ghd IV Styler with its improved performance and rounder barrel.

The print and online campaign launches on 10 November while TV goes live on the 13 November.

Marketing Magazine report that earlier this year, ghd appointed Guy Longworth as global brand director and this is the first campaign from him and newly appointed Global ad agency Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R:

Exclusive offer from the official ghd website

Sunday, November 8th, 2009 by admin

If you are buying ghd hair straighteners and you want to get an offer that is only found on the official ghd website (ghdhair.com), then you’ll be very interested in the extremely exclusive ghd Purity Pack.  This ghd gift set can only be found on the official ghd hair website, and comes free with every set of hair straighteners that you buy from the official site.

This is one major benefit of shopping for ghd on the ghd homepage (i.e. the website that ghd themselves run) and may, in some people’s eyes, be worth the slight premium that the ghd hair website charges. Indeed, the retail value of the ghd Purity Pack is well in excess of this premium and you get the added piece of mind that comes from purchasing from the ghd hair website operated by Jemella Ltd themselves (the people who run ghd).

The ghd Purity Pack consists of

  • ghd gloss black & white heat resistant case
  • Choose 1 of 4 ghd shampoo & conditioner combinations

The shampoo & conditioner combinations are:

  • ghd Thermodynamics Replenish - for thick or coarse hair
  • ghd Thermodynamics Guardian - for colour treated hair
  • ghd Thermodynamics Elevation - for normal to fine hair
  • ghd Thermodynamics Nurture - for weak/damaged hair

Check it out here.

Nicky Clarke desiRED Hair Straighteners better than ghd?

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009 by admin
Nicky Clarke desiRED Hair Straightener

Nicky Clarke desiRED Hair Straightener

Well yes if you believe the hype:

"Independent tests on 100 women across the UK showed that, once they were informed of the brand and price of the two models used, 57 per cent preferred the new Nicky Clarke desiRED straighteners to the ghd IV styler."

Of course reading the above statement more carefully you are drawn to the following bit:

"Independent tests on 100 women across the UK showed that, once they were informed of the brand and price of the two models used , 57 per cent preferred the new Nicky Clarke desiRED straighteners to the ghd IV styler."

We can use simple logic to deduce from this statement that BEFORE "they were informed of the brand and price of the two models used" a majority of these 100 women preferred ghd hair straighteners .  Which is exactly what we would expect the result to be given that ghd has come out top of pretty much every survey and test in the last 9 years (with most involving considerably more than just 100 women).

The results of the Nicky Clarke desiRED survey are even less surprising when you consider that the comparison was done with a ghd hair straightener costsing £132 RRP against a Nicky Clarke desiRED that cost £89.  So customers were basically being asked (once they had expressed an overall preference for ghd)  "oh but, do you think that this hair straightener costing £43 less and being promoted by Britain’s most famous name in hairdressing is preferable?" and still they could only manage a 57/43 win.

We can only assume from their use of the £132RRP model (which would have been the ghd IV Styler from the ghd Radiance set we would guess) that they tried it with the REAL comparable RRP of £116.49 for a ghd IV Styler on its own and didn’t like the results, so substituted in the more expensive model (and perhaps forgot to mention all the extra stuff from Benefit that came with the "£132" ghd hair straightener)

The use of the word "preferred" is interesting too as the more obvious choice would be "better". Again we can hazard a guess that their data did not stack up sufficiently to enable them to make the much stronger claim that X% of 100 women thought the Nicky Clarke desiRED Hair Straighteners were BETTER than ghd

Anyway, there can be no doubt that the Nicky Clarke desiRED Hair Straighteners are a good product - why else would someone as respected as Nicky Clarke put his name to them.  However,  to come out and go head-to-head with the undisputed Queen of hair straighteners so soon (and with such questionable numbers) is perhaps the result of an over-eager PR company trying to generate some buzz (which I suppose has worked since I’ve just blogged 541 words on the subject!)

If you want to check out the Nicky Clarke desiRED Hair Straighteners and save a £10 on the RRP, then Amazon are selling them with free delivery for £79.99.

If on the the other hand you want to buy the world’s favourite hair straightener for as little as £95.95 (including up to £20 worth of free goodies), then why not visit our ghd IV Styler price comparison table?

ghd IV Styler for less than £90 and other news!

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009 by admin

Cheapest ghd deal ever!

Right now the cheapest price we are listing in our ghd price comparison table for the ghd IV styler is a simply incredible £88.46.  That represents a saving of over £30 on the RRP and is probably the cheapst we’ve seen a set of ghd IV hair straighteners go for since they were launched back in early 2007.

This deal is certainly not going to be around long - like we say, we’ve never seen the ghd IV Styler priced this cheaply (except on the websites selling counterfeits of course!)

So don’t waste another minute, visit our ghd price comparison now!

Unwanted Attention

We’ve noticed from our site logs that the second most common country our visitors come from after the UK is China.  Given that we only list UK websites, this would seem a bit strange until you realise that these visits (and we are talking about thousands of visits over the last couple of months) are made by those nefarious individuals selling counterfeit ghd irons - the vast majority of whom seem to be based in China.

We can only presume that they are reading our guides about spotting fake websites to try and improve their shady offerings by fixing the faults we have identified in their websites.  This obviously wasn’t our intention when we first published these articles, so it looks like we have a bit of a fight on our hands to keep spotting their mistakes and having our guides stay one step ahead of the ghd fakers!

Anyway, to all our unwanted counterfeiting guests - P*ss off away from our website! Stop stealing from UK customers and get a job that will make your children proud of you,  theiving scumbags!

MP claims for ghd hair straighteners on expenses!

Thursday, May 21st, 2009 by admin

Yes, yes, we are quite as bored of the MP’s expenses row as you are, however, we couldn’t help laughing out loud when our attention was drawn to today’s latest shocking claims in the Telegraph (note we don’t actually read the Telegraph, not being 95 year old Tory grandees and all).

Anyway, it would seem that at least one of our much maligned Members of Parliament has good taste in hair care, as a claim was submitted (and sadly rejected) for £99.50 in respect of a set of ghd hair straighteners - well it is important for one  to look one’s best when running the country.

Step forward Sarah McCarthy-Fry, the MP for Portsmouth North, and a junior Minister for Education. Ms McCarthy-Fry bought said ghd hair straighteners from a local salon and tried to claim the money back in May 2007, although the miserly claims department rejected the claim as not being for an item essential to help run her second home.

Says who! As anyone who has ever stayed over away from home will attest, there are few things more essential than a set of ghd hair straighteners! They let her claim for a sewing box, but not the UK’s leading brand of hair straighteners… too right the expenses system needs wholesale reform!

Of course, if she had visited us first, we’d have saved her money on the ghd hair straighteners, which might have made her less likely to try and palm the cost off on the taxpayers!

Full details, with more spittle and right-wing anger can be found here.

Meanwhile, the UK’s cheapest ghd hair straighteners deals can be found on Compare ghd.
