ghd IV Styler for less than £90 and other news!

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009 by admin

Cheapest ghd deal ever!

Right now the cheapest price we are listing in our ghd price comparison table for the ghd IV styler is a simply incredible £88.46.  That represents a saving of over £30 on the RRP and is probably the cheapst we’ve seen a set of ghd IV hair straighteners go for since they were launched back in early 2007.

This deal is certainly not going to be around long - like we say, we’ve never seen the ghd IV Styler priced this cheaply (except on the websites selling counterfeits of course!)

So don’t waste another minute, visit our ghd price comparison now!

Unwanted Attention

We’ve noticed from our site logs that the second most common country our visitors come from after the UK is China.  Given that we only list UK websites, this would seem a bit strange until you realise that these visits (and we are talking about thousands of visits over the last couple of months) are made by those nefarious individuals selling counterfeit ghd irons - the vast majority of whom seem to be based in China.

We can only presume that they are reading our guides about spotting fake websites to try and improve their shady offerings by fixing the faults we have identified in their websites.  This obviously wasn’t our intention when we first published these articles, so it looks like we have a bit of a fight on our hands to keep spotting their mistakes and having our guides stay one step ahead of the ghd fakers!

Anyway, to all our unwanted counterfeiting guests - P*ss off away from our website! Stop stealing from UK customers and get a job that will make your children proud of you,  theiving scumbags!

MP claims for ghd hair straighteners on expenses!

Thursday, May 21st, 2009 by admin

Yes, yes, we are quite as bored of the MP’s expenses row as you are, however, we couldn’t help laughing out loud when our attention was drawn to today’s latest shocking claims in the Telegraph (note we don’t actually read the Telegraph, not being 95 year old Tory grandees and all).

Anyway, it would seem that at least one of our much maligned Members of Parliament has good taste in hair care, as a claim was submitted (and sadly rejected) for £99.50 in respect of a set of ghd hair straighteners - well it is important for one  to look one’s best when running the country.

Step forward Sarah McCarthy-Fry, the MP for Portsmouth North, and a junior Minister for Education. Ms McCarthy-Fry bought said ghd hair straighteners from a local salon and tried to claim the money back in May 2007, although the miserly claims department rejected the claim as not being for an item essential to help run her second home.

Says who! As anyone who has ever stayed over away from home will attest, there are few things more essential than a set of ghd hair straighteners! They let her claim for a sewing box, but not the UK’s leading brand of hair straighteners… too right the expenses system needs wholesale reform!

Of course, if she had visited us first, we’d have saved her money on the ghd hair straighteners, which might have made her less likely to try and palm the cost off on the taxpayers!

Full details, with more spittle and right-wing anger can be found here.

Meanwhile, the UK’s cheapest ghd hair straighteners deals can be found on Compare ghd.

ghd at a crossroads?

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009 by admin

For almost a decade, ghd has reigned supreme at the pinnacle of the hair industry.  They are both the premium brand and also the de facto standard for hair straighteners.

Like Google, ghd hair straighteners have become so intertwined with straightening hair, that some people talk about “ghd’ing” their hair, meaning to straighten it, just as others talk about “googling something” when they mean to search for it.

However, with the departure of ghd CEO and co-founder, Martin Penny (although it is suggested that he retains a significant shareholding), along with the recent fall out with TWBA/Manchester their advertising agency, perhaps the time has come for ghd to look to renew and reinvigorate themselves for their, hopefully, second decade of hair dominance.

The news that original ghd supplier UNIL has appointed original ghd marketing gurus, Propaganda, to launch a serious competitor must surely be cause for some concern down ghd way?  Although perhaps with the arrival of some competition, so ghd will up their game.

Certainly, their approach of releasing 3 or more limited editions a year seems to have run its course, with recent launches failing to capture the imagination (not withstanding the massive successes of the Purple ghd and the Pure white ghd).  The Benefit Cosmetics tie-up was a clever idea to move the Limited Editions away from just colour changes, but is their really much synergy between make-up and hair care?  Not really if the response to the promotion was anything to go by.

Of course, it is important not to get too negative.  ghd have barely put a foot wrong since they first launched, and it is inevitable that a company moving from an entrepreneur-led hypergrowth company to management-led established player is going to have a few teething troubles.

Unlike other companies who try to complete a similar transistion in other markets, ghd still have the very best product and are still virtually unchallenged by a single serious direct competitor (if you leave aside the Babylisses of the world).  They have a brand that probably ranks in the top for recall amongst their target audience and they are still undeniably “cool”.

Indeed, if ghd are at a crossroads, perhaps the only thing that can be said with certainty is that whatever comes next is sure to blow our socks off!

Latest ghd news - Thurs 7th May

Thursday, May 7th, 2009 by admin

Well it seems that the scammers still have ghd firmly in their sights, as last time we checked, Google’s paid-for listings (the bits at the top and down the far right side) was mostly made up of scam websites offering stupidly large "discounts" off of completely worthless and potentially very dangerous fake ghds.

One of the latest scams is claiming that the "incredible" prices are due to the straighteners being VAT free.  Well here is an interesting point:  in the UK the VAT threshold is £67,000 per year, which only equates to selling 670 ghd stylers per year (or less than TWO per day)… So if a website is claiming that they can offer you a VAT free price, what they are actually saying is that on average they sell less than two ghds per day (nevermind anything else).  Which would suggest that they are at best, a very small operation (given that some of the larger ghd websites sell hundreds, if not thousands, of ghds per day!)

Of course they could say that the reason they don’t charge VAT is because they are based "overseas".  Which is about as big a red flag as you could possibly have waved in your face.  The only overseas sites that could legally supply you are based in the European Union (and a few other places like Norway and Switzerland), and last time we checked the way the pound is in the exchange rates, the only bargains to be had are by customers in Europe shopping on UK sites.  Which means that the "overseas" site is likely to be based considerably further afield - like China or Hong Kong.   And trust us when we tell you that ghd (a British brand) do not supply websites in the Far East at crazy knockdown prices so that they can then resell into the British market undercutting all UK websites (including ghd’s own site).

The fact remains that ghd hair straighteners are expensive to buy not only for you, but for the merchant that is selling them to you.  An approved ghd website is lucky to be making 20-25% markup on them, so why (oh why) would they be offering them to you at up to 50% off??

Stay safe, and avoid fake ghds by shopping via our ghd price comparison tables.

One final thing though, as the Evening Gazette (a newspaper covering Teesside, Middlesbrough and the North East) reported recently, the UK Border Agency officers  recently seized a shipment of counterfeitghd hair straighteners, which would have been worth £320,000.  These would have been headed to car boot sales, non-ghd approved salons and other rogue traders, so watch out online or offline and make sure you only buy genuine ghd hair straightners.

ghd hair straighteners - Wed 6th May Update

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009 by admin

This month sees the launch of the new ghd rare Limited Edition hair straightener gift set.  The ghd rare is a fabulous glossy black straightener with sparkling gold plates that comes with an uber-trendy animal skin pouch.  The launch date is “sometime this May” and with ghds it is always hard to say exactly when new products will be available.  Best bet is to keep checking our ghd rare price comparison to find out when you can buy the new ghd’s rare styler.

Across the rest of the hair straightener range, there are plenty of a great bargins to be had, including a ghd IV Styler and ghd Thermal Protector spray for just £95.99, or what about a pink ghd for just £112.99?  Given that the RRP of the pink styler was a whopping £135 this really represents a great saving!

Away from the products themselves, April proved to be an interesting month for ghd parent compay, Jemella Ltd.  Firstly, we learned that they have called a review of their advertising account and the incumbent agency, TBWA\Manchester, will not be re-pitching for the business.   Could this be a result of the controversy that has dogged recent ghd campaigns (although we always thought that was the original idea) or just the new management looking to make a firm break with the past?

Speaking of blasts from the past, original ghd advertising agency, Propaganda and original manufacturer of the hair straighteners themselves, UNIL from Korea are, according to the Drum Magazine, rumoured to be plotting a serious competitor to ghd in the UK hair straightener market.  Since ghd was launched in 2000, they’ve virtually had the marketplace to themselves in terms of premium styling irons and the only surprise about this move is that it has taken so long.  As the Drum Magazine notes, Martin Penny, the driving force behind the establishment of ghd, left the company earlier this year - which is surely just a coincidence?

ghd Radiance and more Amazon discounts!

Thursday, February 19th, 2009 by admin

We’ve added the new ghd Radiance gift set to the site, along with a price comparison table.  Now it would seem that not all our featured merchants are listing this item, which would suggest that numbers are quite limited.   However, there are some great bargains to be had on those that are.

The Radiance set features ghd’s first ever hook-up with a for-profit company, in this case, Benefit Cosmetics.  In addition to a black IV styer, the set features a ghd-branded heat resistant bag and a Benefit make-up set as well as a 15% off voucher for any other Benefit product.

Check it out in more detail on our ghd and Benefit gift set Price Comparison

Also, since it was posted yesterday, Amazon have cut the price of the Pink ghd yet further to an incredible £96.26.  This  is a totally unbeatable price, and WILL NOT last for long.  Grab yourself the cheapest pink ghd hair straightener in history today by checking out our pink ghd Price Comparison

When is the GHD Purple going to be in stock?

Monday, November 10th, 2008 by admin

Good question, Mary….

Fact is that it would seem that things have gotten a little delayed at ghd HQ.   No official word yet, but even their own website is still only taking pre-orders despite stating that delivery will be from the 10th of November.

Its only 44 days until Christmas, so we appreciate that there are a few nervous gift-buyers at the moment wondering if the ghd Purple Christmas gift set is going to make an appearance before its time to stick the turkey in the oven?

Well we don’t want to panic you, but the folks over at Amazon are claiming a delivery date of November 25, exactly one month before the big day.  Now, they tend to be pretty on the ball when it comes to these things, although some of the smaller retailers can normally get products up and selling a bit quicker (less warehouses to coordinate…)

Best bet is to stick our purple ghd price comparison into your favourites and check back every day (nay, make that several times a day) like the crazed ghd-addict that we know you are.  We’ll be updating the stock statuses of all our ghd approved merchants as soon as we hear anything!

Of course all of them are offering pre-orders, which given the level of hype surrounding this limited edition release, might be a good idea lest you end up missing out in what will certainly be a purple ghd buying frenzy.

Again all the details are on the price comp page, where you are guaranteed to get the best deal on cheap purple ghds!

Transcend into Hair Care Heaven

New ghd HQ

ghd calls itself “the new religion for hair.” If that’s true, then the trendy, hip, style-setting ghd has a new temple.

Photobucket

Bridgewater Place in Leeds is the place where ghd now calls home. This cutting-edge company, with their trend-setting “manestays,” recently moved into their long-awaited headquarters located in Leeds.

ghd takes up the first two floors of Bridgewater Place in Leeds City. At first glance, it’s hard to tell whether you’re looking at an architectural headquarters, an ultra-modern catwalk, or a space station. The entire building glows with an eerie but intriguing phosphorescence that provides enough appeal to draw you in. As you enter the building, you pass through a hallway of pure, ethereal white. With light all around you–including the floor you walk upon–you are ushered into the sanctuary of ghd’s hair care heaven.

Inside, the interior designers worked hard to match the feeling of the internal space with the product that ghd has worked for seven years to perfect. It was important that it be a multi-functional building. For that reason, the office space boasts room for seminars, conferences, and marketing shows. In the main area, there is seating for nearly 100 attendees. ghd stylists will not be disappointed with the wide open spaces, ample lighting, and abundance of mirrors that are necessary for doing a great style job. The “Secret Diary Room” is a novel idea that provides clients and visitors with a sanctuary for reflecting upon their experience, writing down their ideas, and storing up their recollections about ghd. Never one to be left behind in the world of fashion, ghd boasts a research centre called the Trend Library, second to none, exclusively devoted to fashion, trends, styles, and fads.

A world-famous brand like ghd deserves a place worthy of its reputation. ghd has done just that with its new headquarters. Only the best architects, designers, planners, and consultants were hired to do the job for ghd. Now, ghd has 15,600 square feet of space that sets the bar very, very high indeed for other firms who want to match the prestige of ghd’s attainments. But it wasn’t easy. As Beth Watson, the project manager said.

“It has taken two years to plan and develop our new HQ and it is amazing to finally move in.”

ghd has been wowing consumers for a long time. Bridgewater place provides the perfect spot to continue the wow and carry on the legend that has made ghd a global leader in hair care products.
